Cindy

Cindy is a client pursuing her GED through CEO. We asked her what it would mean for her to have her GED and she said: “It would mean a lot because that’s what I’ve been working for. This is where I come every morning, every day. It’s going to be really important. I’m going to be so happy.” Cindy is a proud mother to a daughter and says that her daughter has inspired her to achieve this goal: “I want her to grow up and be proud of me... All I know is, it’s going to be a better life for all of us and I’m going to be able to give her what she deserves.” Since beginning her studies at RECC, Cindy said “coming to CEO is like coming to a second home.” Like many other clients at CEO, Cindy has been able to utilize resources that might not have otherwise been available to her. “I dropped out so many years ago and I never thought I’d be sitting here, getting my GED. I just thought, I’m going to be a-stay-home mom forever and whatever job I get is what I get. But no. I guess my daughter really did inspire me.” Once Cindy gets her GED, she hopes to go to cosmetology school and open up her own salon.

When we asked 19 year old, recent GED-recipient Suki about her experience with CEO, here’s what she said: “Before I even started the program, I was really sad that I had to drop out of school and I just thought, if I don’t have a college degree or high school degree then I can’t achieve my goal of being a vet and helping animals... And that was really hard on me. But after I got my GED I got the confidence that I can go to college, that I can take those classes, to do what I want to do. So it really helped me reset my track on being what I want to be.” She went on to speak of the instructors at RECC, saying, “All of the teachers helped me. They all gave me things to think about and they all helped me with my work. And I think all of them do a really good job here; they inspired me to finish and get my GED so I can set my track to go to college and look for different colleges that have the programs that I want” She went on to say, “Throughout everything that’s happened, I think coming to the GED classes has to be one of the best things that I did because if I didn’t come here, I don’t think I’d be focused on going to college to become what I want to be in life. I just think the longer this stays open, the more people will be helped. The more people will think about their future goals so they can achieve it.” Suki plans to pursue veterinary medicine and zoology, and hopes to work at a zoo one day.
